Spring 2016

Spring has definitely sprung and summer is closing in fast.  I don't want to forget all that went on during this last spring of high school for John, so I'll go backwards just a bit.

Easter was early this year.  A little cold, maybe - and pretty rainy, it was still a perfect day.

Early spring was the first time that Jules had ever played tennis.  This was a departure from her volleyball schedule that has been year round in the past.  Despite many rained out tournaments, I think that she had a great time and found a sport that she will continue for many years to come.

She hasn't given up on volleyball, but has asked for tennis lessons this summer.  I'm very proud of her for trying something new.

April in Athens means dogwoods, G Day and high school proms.  This year John and Julia went with friends.  Here are Jules and good friend, BT, on their way to B's prom.

Knowing that Julia would be in a group where she was unfamiliar with most kids, her best friends took over.  Coming over to help her get ready, they rode with me to the Botanical Gardens so that they would "be there for her" as the group was taking pictures.  I'm not sure what B thought, but maybe like me, he realized that these girls are just the best.  He was such a good sport about it and I think they all had a great time.  I know that I will always remember P and N "being there" for Julia at another school's pre prom pictures.  Just so she would be more comfortable. Thanks guys.

John also went with a friend to North Oconee's prom:

Tennis and prom bled right into spring break and this year, Julia and I went for a few days with De on a trip to Nashville.  While his trip was all work, ours was all play.  Though it was spring break, let me assure you, it was winter weather.  We bundled up and headed out to a few places we had been in the past - The Country Music Hall of Fame -

as well as a place I had been hoping to tour: Hatch Show Print - a store and a museum.  We puttered around downtown Nashville one entire day shopping and eating. We wandered in and out of the Johnny Cash Museum, the GooGoo store and countless boots stores. We had the good fortune to dine on what was quite possibly the best burger that I ever had between my teeth at Burger Republic.  Located in The Gulch, it was not close to our hotel.  We walked there anyway. We thought that was the highlight of the trip...

... but we were wrong.  I think that we both decided that the highlight was being one of the first customers at the Kendra Scott store at Hill Center the next morning and receiving an awesome free gift.  We love Kendra Scott jewelry and were both giddy at the prospect of adding to our collections and receiving a prize!  On our last night, we ate and visited with old friends in their new digs in Spring Hill, Tennessee.  Always, theirs is the best address for dinner - just one of the reasons we hate they are now so far away.

We wrapped up April and headed into May.  Y'all know that May is a scary lot like December and with a high school senior, there is not a dull moment.
