Christmas Recital

The first weekend in December brought us
Julia's Christmas piano recital.
She played selections from
"the Nutcracker Suite".
She was beautiful and played beautifully
as did all the other children.

She played selections from "The Nutcracker":
Arabian Dance and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

As a mom who admits to loving piano a little
better than soccer... I am really proud!

Remember the Titans

John's freshman year at NOHS has been a little scary for me.
(All these kids DRIVE!)

The wind whipped the banner right off the pole,
but the cheerleaders were undaunted.

There were new difficult classes-HONORS and AP classes.
The campus is HUGE, and the defensive line is even bigger.
But the team went to the playoffs -
very exciting for us all.

Last night, we were booted by Buford.
We held our own and didn't look too bad considering
all the injuries our boys have sustained.
I know that after this season, I will,
"Remember the Titans"...

...and be so proud of mine who the upperclassmen
voted Scout Player of the Week after the Hart County game.
Congrats #88!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a wonderful day with only a small part of our family.
My brother's family could not make the five hour drive due to
Cooper's medical situation.  They were sorely missed
as were all my other cousins who could not come due
to the sad passage of a Grandmother, long distances and
taking turns with in-laws.
We are so thankful for the wonderful family who did attend,
those who were absent and especially, my Daddy, who attends
it all - if only in my heart.

We spent the day counting our blessings.
Here, Norman, our family mathematician,
is tracking them one by one.

If it seems that this post is dominated by only the girls and Norman,
that would be correct.
The other men were still eating... and cleaning.
A big shout out to my man for doing all the dishes - EVERY year so that
"the belles can do", as he says, "whatever it is y'all do."

What a turkey!

I saw this on Pinterest, pinned and... copied.
I thought it was cute and used it this Sunday at church...
with a little ranch dip on the side.

How can you go wrong with a veggie turkey the
Sunday before Thanksgiving?

You actually can.

After the 3rd person said,
"I like your frog".
I knew I had.

Normally, I am in a hurry to decorate for Christmas soon after Halloween.
After putting all the Halloween decorations away,
I'm exhausted.  I'm not in the mood for more
packing and unpacking of "stuff" to celebrate Thanksgiving.
It's just so easy to skip right over the fourth Thursday of November.
(Especially with all the tasks of Christmas to follow so quickly.)
Not this year.  I decided we needed a healthy dose
of Thanksgiving (and Thanksliving) here.
We all need to be reminded of all our blessings.

I decorated the front porch with fall color...

... and filled the old wagon with mums and pumpkins.

I set the breakfast room table for an early
 Thanksgiving dinner.

But the truth is...
this Thanksgiving tablescape is a FAKE!
Y'all know that Mama cooks.

We eat at her house every Thanksgiving.
So while I love dressing up the table,
I really don't intend to put anything else on it...

... besides a Sandra Lee Twenty Minute Meal...
but sometimes those take too long. That's when we
go to Chic Fil A...

... or Mama's.

Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness, come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.  It is he who made us and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with Thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues for all generations.

Region Champs

NOHS has had a wonderful football season.
This was a great year to come in as a freshman.
After a whoopin' from St. Pius, the newly inspired team
took the bull by the horns and filled in the win columns
for the rest of the season.

There was a "black out" when we played our county rivals,
Oconee High School...

...Lots of excitement over the new field house

and a chance to win it all...

Election Dejection

To say that things didn't go our way on November 6 is putting it
mildly.  Clearly, the GOP has some work to do.
So.... MARCO RUBIO 2016!!

The evening started out just fine...
Kenneth and I voted and when John came from football practice,
Nanny was here and we were all ready to ring in four better years...

We had breakfast for supper - perfect for a fall night.
Our menu was sausage balls with sausage from one of my new favorite
shopping venues, Stripling's General Store.  This favorite from
South Georgia has come to the Athens area.  Since I am ten miles
from a traditional grocery store, they are a welcomed addition
to my neighborhood.  Really, it is an awesome, beautiful store.
We also had pumpkin bread, fruit and grits (of course).

We were ready with our map to color 50 states in red!

Too little red, too much blue...
election dejection...

"Now let me be clear.  The path I lay out is not one paved with ever
increasing government checks and cradle to grave assurance that government will
always be the solution.  If this election is a bidding war for who can promise
the most goodies and benefits, I'm not your president.
You have that president today.
